At a glance: Apply a glass screen protector

Instructions: How to apply a tempered glass screen protector correctly

If you want to protect your display from damage in the best possible way, a glass screen protector is the ideal screen protection for you. This protection is sometimes also referred to as a tempered glass screen protector. However, there are clear differences between a glass screen protector and screen protector foil. Our tip: Before making a purchase, take a closer look at the topic and decide whether a glass screen protector or screen protector foil is the right screen protection for you.

In our instructions, we show you how to easily apply a glass screen protector. This is best done in as dust-free an environment as possible. Little dust is found in rooms with high ambient humidity, such as in the bathroom after showering. Alternatively, the kitchen table is also suitable for applying tempered glass to a mobile phone.

Apply a glass screen protector in 5 steps

  • Step 1: Clean the display

Place your smartphone on a non-slip surface and first clean the display thoroughly with a cleaning pad and microfibre cloth .

    The display is cleaned.
  • Step 2: Remove dust particles

Use the adhesive sticker, which is often supplied, to remove the last few dust particles from the display. Despite the earlier cleaning, tiny particles can still be found on the display, which you need to remove to apply the glass screen protector dust-free.

Dust particles are removed with the adhesive strip.
  • Step 3: Apply the glass screen protector precisely

Next, peel the backing film from the screen protection and carefully place the glass screen protector onto the mobile phone. The screen protection immediately remains in place and can no longer be slid around. This is why you should adopt a precise approach and position the glass screen protector exactly. If you are not happy with the positioning, you need to remove the glass screen protector again and reapply it.

    Peel off the backing film
  • Step 4: Apply the glass screen protector without bubbles

To prevent small bubbles from being left under the glass screen protector, now laminate the screen protection onto the device. Use a credit card or ruler, for instance, to help you. Ensure you are applying pressure evenly and thus optimally applying the glass screen protector. If, despite taking care, small bubbles form, this is not a problem. These often disappear by themselves after a few days. If they don’t disappear or are larger, you can remove the bubbles to enjoy flawless screen protection.

    Armoured glass is positioned precisely.
  • Step 5: Remove protector film

Once the job is complete, remove the protector film from the glass screen protector and you’re done.

Bubbles under the armoured glass are removed.

Apply a glass screen protector with a mounting tool

It is often difficult to correctly position a glass screen protector. It’s easier with a mounting tool, such as the EcoFrame adapter from Hama. Thanks to the EcoFrame adapter, you don't have to go to the trouble of manually aligning your glass screen protector.

The procedure for applying the glass screen protector is similar to our instructions. After cleaning, place the glass screen protector into the adapter and apply the adapter to the mobile phone. This ensures the glass screen protector is immediately in the perfect position for application.

Frame as a mounting tool

A glass screen protector is also easy to apply with a frame. Place this mounting tool against the mobile phone after cleaning. You then have edges all round the display, which you can use to first position the glass screen protector exactly and then affix it.

Have a glass screen protector fitted

If you do not want to mount the protector yourself, you can also have the glass screen protector fitted at places such as electronics stores, mobile phone workshops or at other specialist retailers that offer a repair service. The professionals are experienced and generally only need a few moments to apply a screen protector foil or glass screen protector. This is inexpensive and worthwhile as you immediately have an ideal result and will save yourself some effort.
